Now that so many of us are participating in online meetings. It is important to make sure we are attending meetings that are following traditions and know how to handle “troll” situations.
I know this may sound crazy, but you are allowed to ask the host (chairperson of the meeting) the following questions:
1) Have you disabled screen sharing for participants? (If this is not disabled, anyone can take control of the meeting and display their screen)
2) Have you disabled private chats? If you do have the chat option, have you disabled the feature to save chats?
3) Have you disabled all recording options?
4) Do you know how to mute all participants and not allow them to unmute themselves?
5) Do you know how to remove a "troll" or put them on hold and lock the meeting so they cannot come back?
If the host cannot answer these questions or says no to any of the questions, you are participating in a meeting that may be breaking traditions and/or not be able to handle a "troll" situation.
Many of our members are desperately trying to make online meetings available to the addict that still suffers and in the rush, have not educated themselves on what needs to be done to ensure our members' anonymity, follow NA traditions and keep an atmosphere of recovery.
